VWs
November 15, 2008This morning (October 11th, 2008) I was watching Bloomberg TV, they were talking about biodiesel, which got me thinking about VWs again. It amazes me how far the US is behind Europe when it comes to biodiesel. According to the interview I was watching, you can squeeze millions of barrels of competitively priced biodiesel from plants that grow where food won’t. That doesn’t drive up the price of food or pollute the air as much, all while harnessing the sun’s energy. But you need a diesel engine to run biodiesel, and here (in the US) you can’t buy the cool turbodiesel cars available in Europe. Mercedes supposedly sells diesel cars here in the US, but all I can find on their website is SUVs. It looks like VW sells the only (new) 50-state-legal diesel car, the VW Jetta TDi .
