Criminally Accessing MySpace
As I was saying a few days ago (6/19/08) the Internet is not a video game, there are consequences.
Lori Drew created a fake profile on Myspace and allegedly talked a young girl into killing herself. Now if convicted she faces up to 20 years in prison:
The Los Angeles indictment is the first time that a social networking user has faced federal charges for accessing protected computers for harassment.
This is a very sad story, I hope we learn from it.
Update: I recently heard there is a “troll community” that has stirred up controversy around this case, although I don’t have any links to post yet.
