Cars As Avatars
September 3, 2008I haven’t followed the auto industry much, but this is a direction I’m considering more, because I see the Myspace generation is about to buy cars. They drive the Internet, soon they will drive our roads too.
As Robert Lutz explained, when Charlie Rose asked why he loves the auto business, he says cars are like exoskeletons. To me, it sounded like Lutz was saying cars are like avatars. When we are out in the world, we typically have no choice but to “represent” as the car. How we choose to represent ourselves, this is where art comes into play, where design and psychology intersect. At the same time, automobiles offer us tremendous freedom. Where we choose to go, the turns we take, these are interesting, creative decisions too.
I’m starting to write a story where most of the action involves a car. So I’m thinking about how to get more links to the site/story.
